It’s Walk To School Week 21 – 25

Walk to School Week runs every year during May. Living Streets organises these campaigns to encourage children and their families to walk to school. Each year they put together a themed challenge to get children and their families to get a taste of the many benefits that walking offers. In 2017 400,000 children and their families took part in the challenge.

Living Streets include the following benefits to walking to school:

  • Healthier bodies and happier minds
  • Fewer cars at the school gate
  • Less air pollution
  • Time to chat with family and friends

Taking regular exercise is important for the health of our spines whatever our age. With back pain on the increase amongst children and young people our chiropractors support any campaigns that encourage increasing activity such walking.

If you haven’t taken part in this year’s Walk to School campaign we encourage you not to wait until next year before giving walking to school a try. Perhaps organise your own mini challenge in your household or get a few parents involved.

Driving a long way to school on your school run doesn’t need to stop you. Simply leave the car 10 minutes away from the school and walk the rest of the way.
