The Great British Bake Off is back and well underway. This year’s competitors are a talented lot with Paul Hollywood lavishing handshakes more frequently than in the past! It’s looking to be a close run final if the past weeks are anything to go by.
Baking is a great fun activity for many and it’s something that all the family can get involved in. However, it’s not without its pressures! Our chiropractors at Witney Chiropractic Clinic have some timely back safe advice for all you bakers out there.
One of the most common reasons for bakers and chefs developing back pain is working at counter tops that are not at the right height for their bodies. Check your counter top and if it’s too high then find a suitable height chopping board to work on. You can also spread your feet as wide apart as is necessary to prevent bending over.
Lifting, carrying and bending can also be frequent culprits leading to back pain. It’s surprising how much of these activities are involved in baking. Remember to bend your knees and not your back when lifting. Always face the direction you want to move in to avoid twisting your body.
And finally take regular breaks and do a few simple stretches.
Happy back safe baking.
