Think about the luggage you are going to use. There are plenty of lightweight luggage options on the market these days so if your case is heavy even before you start packing invest in a lighweight on. Choose a case that has wheels which will allow you to push the case rather than pull it behind yourself.
Avoid having to struggle to identity the case on a carousel by making it stand out, if it doesn’t already!

At the airport
If you can avoid using a trolley then do so. All too often they have wheels that have a mind of their own and it’s so easy to put your back out struggling with one!
On the flight
Do exercises in your seat to help avoid stiffness. Shoulder shrugs, foot circles and buttock clenches are good ones and can be done in your seat. If you can get up and have a walk around then that will help.
